The Inaugural Tom Uren AC Memorial Lecture
Time & Location
About the Event
Featuring José Ramos-Horta, AC
Tom Uren AC was one of our country's greatest - a boxer, a soldier and community leader who rose to become the Deputy Leader of the Australian Labor Party. Throughout his long life, Tom championed many causes and one of the toughest was the fight for justice in Timor-Leste. It is only fitting, therefore, that the guest speaker for the inaugural Tom Uren Memorial Lecture is José Ramos-Horta AC, a man who, like Tom, has worked his entire life to achieve a better life for the people of his country. The former freedom fighter, peace envoy, Prime Minister and President was joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1996 and until recently was the United Nation's special Representative and Head of the Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau. José Ramos-Horta is now an international peace expert.
Hosting the lecture will be the Member for Grayndler, the Honourable Anthony Albanese.
