About the Event

The Accord 30 Years On, a special symposium to mark the 30th anniversary of the Prices and Income Accord, on Friday 31 May.

The Accord between the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Australian Labor Party was a landmark agreement that served as the foundation stone of the Hawke and Keating government’s industrial relations and economic policies.Although widely credited as helping to modernise and bring greater stability to the Australian economy, its legacy remains highly contentious.

The Accord 30 Years On will reflect upon the Accord’s strengths and weaknesses and its significance for informing responses to current public policy and industrial relations challenges. The symposium will bring together prominent academics and leaders from government, business and unions to evaluate the legacy and impact of the Accord on issues such as productivity, living standards, and union influence, and assess its contemporary relevance.
