About the Event
Jessie Street (1889-1970) was a great Australian activist for peace and human rights. The Trust was formed in 1989 to commemorate Jessie’s life and to assist activities she would have supported, in the areas of women’s rights, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights, peace and disarmament and the elimination of discrimination.
Senator the Hon. Penny Wong will be the speaker at the 2014 Jessie Street Luncheon. Penny is an Australian senator and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. She has represented South Australia in the Senate since 2002.
