Frank Stilwell

President of the Evatt Foundation

Frank is Professor Emeritus in Political Economy at the University of Sydney. He is a leading critic of conventional economics, an exponent of a more progressive political economy and an advocate of policies that prioritise social justice and ecological sustainability. He is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. He has been a member of the Evatt Foundation for the last three decades and was elected President in 2025 after serving as Vice-President for the previous ten years. He is also a former Vice-President of the Council for Peace with Justice   

Frank has written thirteen books and co-edited seven others. These books include Political Economy: The Contest of Economic Ideas; The Political Economy of Inequality; Neoliberalism: Beyond the Free Market; Changing Track: A New Political Economic Direction for Australia; Economics as a Social Science; and Handbook of Alternative Theories of Political Economy. For thirty years, Frank has also been the coordinating editor of the Journal of Australian Political Economy. 

Frank welcomes invitations to talk with other progressive organisations about the role and work of the Evatt Foundation and our shared interests in creating a good society.
