The State of the States ArchivesPast ResultsThe first edition of the Evatt Foundation's State of Australia series was published in 1994. The initial inspiration for the series was to offer a challenge to the narrow, financially-driven assessments of Australia's sub-national governments that are promulgated by the domestic outlets of the two major New York based transnational credit rating corporations, Moody's Investor Services and the Standard and Poor's Corporation. MethodologyAs in past years, each of Australia's State governments has been assessed by integrating a range of separate social, environmental and economic indicators to produce a single - but very broadly based - measure of its performance. The methodology produces a single figure assessment of the performance of each State by following three steps.
